Under a pilot project, the students at the Mennonite Centre for
Newcomers are testing "m-learning," or mobile learning, where they
download an English grammar lesson, then answer a series of multiple
choice, or true or false questions.
Teachers' unions and student associations are fighting to prevent a
francophone college near Montreal from setting up an English only course
in aircraft maintenance. The groups say there would be a major impact
on the linguistic integrity of French language institutions if the course goes
ahead at the Edouard Montpetit junior college in Longueuil.
English course uses a process approach to help you further your skills in
reading, writing, and oral and visual communication. You will investigate
literary, informational and media texts, with a focus on short stories,
a novel, a one act play, and newspaper and magazine articles, and write
narrative and expository texts. The course emphasizes the clear and
correct communication of ideas, information and opinions in contexts that
are relevant to you.
The online academy is a challenging tool for Intermediate students to
improve their understanding of key grammar topics through encouraging
exercises and activities.
Intermediate students will improve their
understanding of 29 key grammar areas from some any at Elementary
level to phrasal verbs at advanced level.
Each unit begins with a
presentation based on a dialogue, newspaper article or radio broadcast,
where learners are encouraged to form theories about how the grammar
works.
Next come concept checking questions, and a grammar rule where
learners confirm or correct their theories. Students move on to practice
and testing activities in which the language is contextualised and key
aspects of form and function are highlighted.
This program has been
officially adopted worldwide by the British Council and by Ministries of
Education in many countries including Spain, Canada, Malaysia and the
UAE.
International travel has become an easier process. Several countries, like
China, have opened their borders for trade and commerce. With easier
travel and open borders, emigration and business with foreign investors
has become a reality for today’s business communities. In this new global
world, English plays a large part.
